From February, horse enthusiasts can rejoice again: the horses are allowed out of the stable during the annual Straô. On Saturday, February 14, Renesse traditionally kicks off the Straô, followed by the other participating Schouwen villages.
During this folkloric event, the horses are taken out of the stable after the winter period to wash their hooves and legs in the surf. Dressed-up horses, lavish traditional costumes, and the necessary conviviality are not to be missed.

“Hier is mijn haven, hier leg ik aan!” As beautifully as the Zeeland band BLØF already knew how to sing it in Dutch, it is truly beautiful here on the coast. Experience the ultimate beach feeling at our Beach Pavilion De Haven van Renesse. A ten-minute walk over the dune crossing treats you to an almost magical view over the North Sea beach.

The story goes that the gnomes inhabit the estate to come to life at night. Follow the walking paths and try to find all the gnomes along the way. There are more than 50 gnome locations on the route. With a special walking route for young children up to 8 years old, this hike is an exciting outdoor activity for young and old. Did you know that the Gnome Forest is open all year round?

Kabouterbos Renesse
Since 1837, the Westerlichttoren, located in the dunes near Nieuw-Haamsteden, towers high above the treetops. The lighthouse was designed by Leendert Valk and watches over the shipping on the North Sea. With an impressive height of no less than 53 meters, this lighthouse is an absolute highlight when you visit Schouwen-Duiveland. It is therefore not surprising that this lighthouse is one of the most photographed objects on the island of Schouwen-Duiveland.
